Objective: 

To familiarize students with the various fabrics available in the market.

2.  To make student understand the basic dimensions and properties of fabric.

 

Unit I: 
Course Content:
  • Identification of different type of fabric according to the classification of fiber                                                                                                                                                         20 hrs
  • Prepare a scrap book of different type of fabrics according to the classification of fiber                                                                                                                                            25 hrs

  • Woven fabrics (Basic & Fancy)
  • Knitted fabrics (single knit, double knit, jersey)
  • Non-woven & Bonded Fabric

                  

  • Analysis of cotton, wool, silk and synthetic fabric:                                                      45 hrs                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   
  • Identification of fiber
  • Yarn Twist
  • Thread count
  • Study of inter-relationship of Thread/Needle/stitch length of different fabrics (Light weight, medium weight & Heavy weight fabrics, etc.)
  • Fabric weight
  • Fabric width
  • Single /Ply yarns/Fancy Yarns
  • Identification of weaves
  • Creating basic weaves (plain, twill and sateen and their variations) on a frame loom
  • Dimensional stability
  • Washing fastness (dry and damp)
  • Identification of blends
  • Drape
