Objective: 
  1. To familiarize students with various techniques of surface ornamentation for value addition
  2. To enable the students to use various surface enrichments for apparel and home furnishings

 

Unit I: 
Course Content:
  • Basis hand stitches:                                                                                           10 hrs
  • Satin, Closed Herringbone, open Chain, Fish Bone, Fly, French Knot
  • Cut work, Applique work, smocking, shirring and crochet
  • Traditional embroideries:                                                                                 10 hrs

Kantha of Bengal, Phulkari of Punjab, Mochibharat of  Gujarat, Kashida of Kashmir, Chikankari of Uttar Pradesh, Kasuti  of Karnataka

 

  • Machine Sewing Techniques                                                                                05 hrs

 

  • Quilting & Patchwork                                                                                           05 hrs

 

  • Tucks  & Pleats                                                                                                     04 hrs

 

  • Edging:  Lace, Piping, Beads, Fringes                                                                  05 hrs

 

  • Demonstration / visit of basic dyeing and printing units.                                     05 hrs

 

  • Tie and Dye, Batik, Stencil, Screen and Block printing                                       15 hrs

 

  • Preparation of scrap file with special emphasis on color, design and motifs & study the present market for Indian Textiles: woven, embroidered and printed textiles of India.                                                                                                                                06 hrs
  • Designing, sourcing and preparation of two made ups/apparel using any of the above techniques, taking inspiration from traditional designs                                        25 hrs
