Fundamentals of Garment Making (Theory)

  • Tools and equipment’s used for: measuring, marking, cutting, sewing and pressing
  • Various landmarks on the body
  • Precaution while taking body measurements

  • Grain lines and its importance
  • Preparation of fabric for cutting
  • Layout and cutting: fabrics folds for layout, layouts for fabrics requiring special handling
  • Marking

  • Varieties of fabric
  • Cotton: Poplin, Muslin, Cambric, Voile, LawnWoollen: Flannel, Tweed, Single Jersey, Double Jersey
  • Silk: Satin, Taffeta, Organza, Crepe, Chiffon, Dupion, Georgette
  • Synthetic: Rayon, Polyester, Nylon, Viscose, Fur
  • Fabric characteristics: Construction and Texture
  • Trims: Lace, Ribbons, Braids, Fringes, Embroidered, cords and Piping
