Objective: 

This course will familiarize students with various techniques of surface ornamentation for value addition and enable them to apply these surface enrichments to apparel and home furnishings.

 

Course Outcomes: 

CO 30 Create and illustrate the layouts for the products related to home textiles.

CO 31 Plan, design and create different hand embroideries for samples/products development.

CO 32 Develop product using dyeing and printing techniques according to industrial need.

CO 33 Compile comprehensive practical record and submission related to various surface ornamentation techniques

CO 34 cultivate verbal communication skills to converse effectively.

  CO 35 Contribute effective in course specific interaction.

CONTENT

 

I: Basis Hand Stitches:                                                          (16 Hours)

Design & develop samples using below mentioned stitches in combination        Stem, Chain, Herringbone, Cross stitch, Fish Bone, Lazy dazy, Satin, Fly, French Knot, Bullion Knot, Mirror work

II: Traditional hand Embroideries:                                               (16 Hours)
Illustrate & collect motifs for the following embroideries.                                         

  • Kantha of Bengal, Phulkari of Punjab, Mochi bharat of Gujarat, Kashida of Kashmir, Chikankari of Uttar Pradesh, Kasuti of Karnataka, Chamba Rumal.

III: Layouts: Illustrate all over, Border, corner, centre layouts for the following products                                                                           (16 Hours)

  • Design handkerchief
  • Table cloth
  • Table runner
  • Cushion cover

IV: Other techniques: Design & develop samples using the following techniques.                                                                                     (32 Hours)

  • Tie and Dye
  • Batik,
  • Stencil,
  • Screen
  • Block printing

V: Design and develop any one product in apparel or home furnishing using any of the above techniques in combination. The product/ sample should be approved by the concerned faculty.                                      (10 Hours)

Note: The developed product should be displayed accordingly in the department exhibition. Photographs during the exhibition should be documented in Portfolio.
