Objective: 
  1. To understand the use of components of a garment.
  2. To give the basic knowledge of various construction techniques.

 

Unit I: 
Course Content:

 I          Introduction to Sewing                                           4 hrs

  • Machine – Hand, Treadle and Electric motor.
  • Basic parts of sewing machine and its attachments.
  • Defects and Remedies of sewing machine.

 

II         Taking Body Measurements.                                2 hrs

 

III        Preparation of Fabric before stitching.                             3 hrs

 

IV        Basic production operations:

                                                           

  • Basic Hand Stitches                                                   7 hrs
    • Temporary stitches – Basting (Even, Uneven, Diagonal, Slip)
    • Permanent stitches – Hemming, Back Stitch, Run & fell

 

  • Seams and Seam finishes                                           7 hrs
    • Seams – Top, Strap, French
    • Seams finishes – Pinked, Edge and Bound

 

  • Introducing fullness                                                10 hrs
    • Darts – Decorative and Functional
    • Tucks – Pin, Cross, Diamond, Scalloped, Grouped and Shell
    • Pleats – Knife, Inverted and Box
    • Gathers – By hand, Machine & Bobbin elastic

 

  • Frills or Ruffles                                                                                               4 hrs
    • Double ruffle & Circular ruffle

 

  • Facing and Bindings
  • Necklines                                                                                        7 hrs

 

  • Placket                                                                                                              5 hrs
    • Continuous wrap placket
    • Wrap and projection

 

  • Pockets                                                                                     5 hrs
    • Patch, Inseam, Slash pocket

 

  • Fastners                                                                                  3 hrs
    • Hooks, Buttons, Zip

 

  • Trimming                                                                                     3 hrs
    • Lace, Braid, Piping
