Objective: 
  • To impart the knowledge and importance of key apparel construction techniques and to place them in a real world context facilitating practical insights.

  • Locating Land Marks
  • Taking  body measurements for: men ,women and children
  • Fabric preparation for sewing-Preshrinking, straightening, Truing
  • Handling special fabrics while cutting 8 stitching                                                   ( lace, velvet, chiffon & knits )

  • Introduction to basic sewing  tools, marking techniques, sewing machine & its parts
  • Sewing machine feed mechanisms
  • Sewing machine needles & threads
  • Sewing problems & its remedies-thread types used for particular GSM of fabric or yarn type used in the garment
  • Elementary  knowledge of machinery  for stitching of knitted garment

  • Introduction  & application of basic sewing techniques –

       Seams –types, classification:
       Plain, enclosed, seams with different contours, seams with fullness

  • Seam finishes & hem finishes, Facings & bindings
  • Finishing for knits-specially for bulky garment
  • Darts, gathers, pleats, tucks, Plackets & closures
  • Support material: Interlining, underlining, lining, interfacing

  • Sewing sequence and techniques of making the following

       Necklines and collars, Sleeves and sleeve finishes, Making and applying pockets
    Fasteners ,closures and their application.

  • Identifying the components of apparel for fabric, shaping devices, Underlying fabrics, pockets, necklines treatment, sleeve treatment, Waist treatment, closures, hem treatment & decorative details
  • Standard for evaluating the various components

Fitting

  • Definition & tools required in fitting room
  • Factors affecting good fit
  • Common fitting problems & their remedies
  • Fitting shell, marker pattern & the test garment
  • Basic pattern alteration in length, width, waist, hips etc.
