Indian Textiles (Practical)

 

CO.57 Identify various Indian Embroideries and woven textiles of India

CO.58 Examine various resist dyed, printed and painted textiles of India

CO.59 Compile comprehensive practical record and submission related to developed designs of Indian Textiles and cultivate verbal communication skills to converse effectively with examiners.

Approach in teaching: Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Power Point Presentations, Informative videos

 

Learning activities for the students: Self-learning assignments, report writing (Detailed document) and display presentation

Assessment tasks will include Class Test, Semester end examinations, and Student presentations

 

 

CONTENTS

Embroideries

·       Introduction to basic embroidery stitches

o   Create a sample of all basic embroidery stiches

·       Traditional embroideries:

o   Kashida of Kashmir

o   Phulkari of Punjab

o   Chikankari of Uttar Pradesh

o   Kantha of Bengal

o   Chamba of Himachal

o   Kasuti of Karnataka

o   Kathiyawar of Gujarat

o   Dabke ka kaam & Gota Patti of Rajasthan

Study any one above mentioned traditional embroideries with reference to origin, technique, raw material, colours, motifs and layout with pictorial presentation and sample development

(25 Hours)

·       Resist-Dyed Textiles:

  • Hands-on practice in Bandhani, Leheriya, and Batik techniques
  • Experimentation with different tying, folding, and waxing techniques
  • Dyeing and finishing of fabric samples using natural dyes

Design and create a resist dyed scarf using above mention techniques.

(20 Hours)

·       Printed Textiles:

  • Executing Sanganeri prints on fabric

Design, and document printing with proper layout for table cloth

(10 Hours)

·       Painted Textiles:

o   Creating samples of Pattachitra, Madhubani, and Kalamkari in textile painting

Develop a miniature painted textile artworks inspired by any one above mention painted textiles.

(15 Hours)

·       Woven Textiles:

  • Explore various woven textiles of India and prepare a report on the visit made during exploration through exhibitions, fair etc.
  • Study any one woven textile in detail with focused on colour, design, weaving pattern etc.
  • Develop textile design sheet inspired by the traditional woven textile.
  • Sketch 2-3 design variation inspired by the selected woven textile.

Students are required to prepare a document of all the craft in their portfolio.
