Unit I: 
COURSE CONTENT
  • Tracing of design on fabric for embroidery
  • Basic embroidery stitches:
  • Running: back, Chain, Stem
  • Satin: Fly, Buttonhole, Couching
  • Cross: Herring bone
  • Preparing samples of the following (any two) traditional embroideries
  • Kasuti of Karnataka
  • Chikankari of Uttar Pradesh
  • Kantha of Bengal
  • Phulkari of Punjab
  • Kutch of Gujarat
  • Kashida of Kashmir
  • Chamba of Himachal
  • Documentation of traditional Indian textiles in the form of scrap book
  • Any two reports on visit to textile museum / Craft cluster / Craft area.
  • Survey and documentation of the selected craft
  • How it has evolved, the technicalities as well as the present status of the craft. Role of designer to uplift the craft Study the consumer choice, the marketing channels and outlets.
  • Application of Indian traditional textiles in contemporary apparel
  • Students will make a detailed documentation of the implements, materials and process used. They will submit the portfolio in the form of Oral Presentation or Display.
