Objective: 
  1. To learn the process of designing through motif development.
  2. To foster an understanding of design for developing a product

 

Unit I: 
Course Content:

Documentation, Object drawing and Creation of Motifs based on an inspiration:      10 hrs

  • Natural
  • Geometric
  • Stylized
  • Abstract

 

Process of Designing                                                                                                             20 hrs

  • Motif and its Types
  • Growth of Motif:  Enlarging and Reducing.
  • Color Application:  Color schemes and color ways
  • Repeats: Half drop, brick, All over, ogee, unit, One-way, Two-way, Diamond 
  • Layouts of design to form a pattern:  Border, corner, center, Free flowing, Stripes and checks

 

Product development of any two articles based on a theme                                              30 hrs

  • Mood Board
  • Derivation of color palette based on mood board
  • Motif creation
  • Motif repetition using variation of repeats
  • Motif repetition in color way
  • Placement of the repeat patterns based on the end product (such as Stole and Table Linen)
