The solemn morning of 8th July 2016 marked the beginning of a new journey as the life of the fresher’s began. The IIS University commenced the session 2016-17 on this day by welcoming the newly admitted students along with their parents as they arrived to attend “Abhinandan 2016” organised in the in Vinayak hall of the campus. The event had a three days orientation programme for the students as well as the parents. They were welcomed by Tika- Moli.
The first session was organised for the parents. Prof. Deepa Pareek, commenced the session by introducing the new scheme of curriculum adopted by the university- Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and semester scheme. She further briefed them about the university since its inception and its journey so far. She also emphasised that the university believes in better communication and soft skills along with the studies. Credit system and its significance were too highlighted by her. She encouraged the parents to support their wards in active participation in various activities held in the university. Other highlights were mentor Guardians, placement cell, attendance compulsion, biometric attendance system, transportation, etc. The main focus was Meta campus, the e-support system for the parents and students, followed by the no ragging rule in the college monitored by anti-ragging squad.
Students' session began after the parents' session. They were greeted by Tika- Moli. The Hon'bl Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. Ashok Gupta greeted the fresher’s through an Audio-Visual presentation. He talked about the innovative learning methods in IISU. Another set of AV presentation “Reminiscence 2015” voiced by Preksha Jain was shown to the students which was a virtual tour to the infrastructure and facilities provided by the institution.
Next session was an elaborate introduction to Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) by Professor Roopa Mathur, Dean, Academics. She elaborated the deemed university status of The IISU and student centric approach of CBCS and its advantages over other curricula. She also added how credits helped in promotion and are necessary to clear the paper. Scheme of grading and computation of CGPA in CBCS was briefed by Dr. Nisha Yadav, Controller of Examination. She explained the pattern of question paper and criteria for passing to the students.
After all the introductory sessions, the fresher’s headed towards their respective department for the department orientation programme. The students of Fashion and Textile Department moved to the Clothing Lab. They were welcomed by Dr. Radha Kashyap, HOD, Fashion and Textile Department in the clothing lab. She helped the students understand the career choices better and gave them tips to excel in their area of interest. She briefed them regarding the subject choices available to them and grading scheme. She also advised them to actively participate in the activities, seminars and guest lecturers organised by the department. She mentioned the importance of regularity and discipline in a student's life. The students’ then headed for the campus visit after which they boarded their buses.

The 2nd day of “Abhinandan 2016” started with a zest of monsoon as the students assembled in the AV hall for a short introductory session by Dr.Bhawna Sharma and Dr.Nidhi Sharma on Extra co curricular activities and meta campus respectively. Students then proceeded to the clothing lab for a guest lecture. Ms. Akshita Singhal, Head Designer- Rasa Boutique was the guest for the morning. She gave a very casual start and made the listeners comfortable. she shared and conveyed her thoughts through her personal experiences. She explained the importance of communication and networking in fashion industry. She interacted with the students and enlightened them on renowned fashion designers. Her focus was also on e-commerce, a budding fashion industry. Student queries were also dealt. The student felt at ease with her interactive demeanour.
Later, the students moved to the in Vinayak hall for an ice- breaking session with some senior students of the department. The fresher’s were divided into three teams for a quiz that comprised interesting questions from the fashion industry, brands and designers. After the quiz, Ms. Isheeta Chaturvedi and Ms. Monika Agarwal briefed the syllabus of the subject they would teach. They also advised them to be regular with attendance and time management.
At the end of the day, students had another fun activity with seniors and thereafter boarded their buses for home.

With the showers of rain adding to the joy, the final day of student orientation programme began. Ms. Deepika Singh introduced the students to Business English Certificate (BEC) and it being a part of University of Cambridge. She emphasised that the certificate enhances ability of a candidate to communicate in business environment and its significance in personality development. She added that the certificate had a great demand in job interviews and it was valid across the globe. Further, she described other aspects like eligibility, various levels, paper schemes of BEC. Ma'am also briefed the students about the full fledged COSD and vocational courses running in the college with their relevance and importance. Introduction to the placement and training cell was also given by her.
The Do's and Don’ts while on the campus were elaborated by Dr. Radhika Sharma.
Next, Ms. Sunetra Dutt briefed the students about the syllabus of CFSD 103 to the students of Fashion Designing and gave them guidelines to work on the subject. The students then reached the clothing lab for a guest lecture with Ms. Swati Malik, an entrepreneur. She explained the designing aspects and out of the box approach to it. She portrayed a journey of togetherness of a teacher and student. Her practical, real life instances wove a creative conjunction in the minds of students. She demonstrated the creation of funky accessories out of left over and waste materials. She opened the stimulated young minds for creative thinking.
