Objective of the Guest lecture:
The guest lecture was on the topic Recent Trends in Apparel Industry, and the aim was to create awareness amongst the participants regarding the recent trends that are ongoing in the apparel industry.
Summary/Description: The Department of Fashion & Textiles organized a guest lecture on “Recent trends in Apparel Industry” on 26th November 2021, at 12:15 pm. The speaker of the lecture was Dr. Namrata Kola, Professor, P.G. Department of Home Science, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidhyavihar,Anand, Gujarat. She shared her knowledge and expertise with the participants on online, Google meet platform. The webinar was attended by UG students, PG students, Research Scholars, and Faculty members of the Department of Fashion & Textiles.
Prof. Namrata discussed on the recent changes that have occurred in the Apparel Industry. She explained the importance of sustainability and its impact on the environment. She focused on the continues growth in athleisure. Athleisure is defined as a combination of athletic and casual leisure activities and thus, the sector is growing at a rapid pace. She also explained the extended collection of plus sizes.
She elaborated upon how the industry is breaking gender stereotypes. Of late, luxury fashion brands have taken up the cause of breaking gender stereotypes in Fashion. She discussed how the gender identity as a concept has been blown open in recent years. Students actively participated and discussed their queries with expert.
Overall the session was very fruitful and informative for the students.
Outcome of the Guest lecture
The students were updated on the Recent Development in the Apparel Industry. Students understood the world of fashion has changed from how it used to be and apparel industry has broken all the gender stereotypes.
