Objective of the activity:The purpose of the Guest Lecture was to have a healthy interaction with students and make them understand the core aspects of Fashion and how to think like a fashion designer.

Description:

The Department of Fashion and Textiles organized aguest lecture for all the students of B.Sc. Fashion design and M.A. /M.com/M.Sc in Fashion design  on Monday, 10 October 2022 for the students.The Department invited Ms Anuradha Sharma, Fashion Designer and self-employed Couturier in Jaipur, as a guest speaker for the guest lecture.

 

The topic of the lecture was "THINKING LIKE A FASHION DESIGNER"

Ms. Anuradha Sharma has plenty of experience in the field of fashion and design. Currently, she is a self-employed Couturier in Jaipur and has been awarded with ‘'The Source' Lakme Fashion Week award, Vogue Honour Certificate, Annual Fashion Award by INIFD to list a few.

She guided students with her experience and knowledge. She advised them to always keep their mind open, think like a fashion designer and take inspiration from every possible thing one sees, also one must be determine towards the goal and workhard for the same. She also advised them to have a signature style and show art in our designs so that people can identify through work.

Through her presentation, she explainedthe process to be a part of Lakme Fashion Week. With over 100 designers, brands & industry stakeholders interfacing every season through the 5 days of showcases. FDCI X* Lakme Fashion Week has established itself as the hub for emerging talent, sustainability and business of fashion.

Apart from the technical details; Ms. Anuradha Sharmaalso shared her own experience and job roles which one has to follow while choosing this career path. Since being a successful fashion designer she addressed that not only requires talent and creativity, but it also requires a sound knowledge of the business and marketing aspects of the fashion world. Keep oneself updated on the happenings in the fashion industry. She also explained the roles and responsibilities of a designer to develop a fashion show line like creating or visualising an idea and producing a design by hand or using computer-aided design (CAD), keeping up to date with emerging fashion trends as well as general trends, planning and developing ranges, working with others in the design team, such as buyers and forecasters, to develop products to meet a brief, liaising closely with sales, buying and production teams on an ongoing basis to ensure the item suits the customer, market and price points, understanding design from a technical perspective, i.e. producing patterns and technical specifications for designs, sourcing, selecting and buying fabrics, trims, fastenings and embellishments

 

Outcome of the activity: Fashion designer play a vital role in conveying recent fashion trends. Nothing is constant in fashion. Designs and styles keep changing. Fashion designers help in creating interest among the public to spread awareness about new arrivals in design and style. The designers help to draw public attention towards new trends. The guest lecture was concluded on a very cheerful note. A lot of concepts were explained so well that the students were left highly motivated and more enthusiastic to enter the world of fashion.
