Name of the Activity: Khadi Mahotsav 2025

Date: 9th October to 14th October 2025

Venue: Clothing Lab, IISU Lawn and Ojas Hall

Timings: 10:00 am –2:00 pm

No. of Participants: 179 university students 

Objective of the Activity: The main objective of organizing Khadi Mahotsav 2025 was to create awareness among students about the importance of Khadi as a sustainable and eco-friendly fabric, to promote the use of handspun and handwoven textiles, and to encourage creativity and innovation in designing with Khadi. 

Description: The Department of Fashion & Textiles, IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur, organized Khadi Mahotsav 2025 from 9th to 14th October 2025 in collaboration with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and the Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI), Jaipur. The celebration aimed to promote the spirit of Khadi and raise awareness about sustainable and handcrafted textiles among students through a series of creative competitions and activities. It also sought to instill a sense of pride in India’s rich textile heritage, emphasize the relevance of Khadi in contemporary fashion, and inspire students to support national initiatives such as “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

 

Day 1: 9th October 2025 – Contemporary Khadi Design Illustration Competition

The Khadi Mahotsav 2025 began with the Contemporary Khadi Design Illustration Competition, in which 43 students participated with great enthusiasm.
The competition encouraged students to create design concepts that showcased the fusion of Khadi’s traditional essence with modern fashion aesthetics.

Winners:

  • 1st Prize: Shrasthi Nirwan – B.Sc. Fashion Design III Semester

  • 2nd Prize: Ambika Anchara – B.Sc. Fashion Design I Semester

  • 3rd Prize: Tanisha Jain – B.Sc. Fashion Design V Semester

 

Day 2: 10th October 2025 – Slogan Writing Competition

On the second day, a Slogan Writing Competition was organized in collaboration with the Department of Education. A total of 117 students participated, creating inspiring and thought-provoking slogans promoting Khadi as a symbol of nationalism, sustainability, and self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat).

  • 1st Prize: Jiya Singh Parihar – BCA I Semester

  • 2nd Prize: Nishtha Goyal – B.Sc. Fashion Design III Semester

  • 3rd Prize: Gourangini Vijayvargiya – M.A. Fashion Design I Semester

 

Day 3: 11th October 2025 – Selfie with Khadi Activity

The third day featured a fun and engaging activity titled “Selfie with Khadi”, where 19 students participated by capturing creative selfies wearing Khadi outfits.
The event aimed to generate youth interest in Khadi and promote pride in sustainable Indian textiles through social media participation.

  • 2nd Prize: Bhuvneshwari Bhati – M.Sc. Fashion Design I Semester

  • 3rd Prize: Gouri Beniwal – B.Sc. Fashion Design III Semester

 

Day 4: 14th October 2025 – Award Distribution and Pledge Ceremony

The final day of Khadi Mahotsav 2025 concluded with the Award Distribution and Pledge Ceremony, held on 14th October 2025 at 12:30 p.m. in Ojas Hall.

The ceremony was graced by Mr. Priyankar Rai, Executive In-charge, Khadi KVI/KNHPI, Jaipur; Dr. Sunita Chauhan, Biotech Lab In-charge, KNHPI; and Mr. Mohan Singh Adhikari.

The guests first visited the display area, where they observed the Slogan Writing entries and Contemporary Khadi Design Illustration sheets exhibited on the main stage. Afterwards, they visited the Selfie Booth, where they took photographs to celebrate the spirit of Khadi. Following the display visit, the guests were warmly welcomed by students with a traditional tikka ceremony, symbolizing respect and hospitality. The formal program then commenced in Ojas Hall.

During the event, Dr. Sunita Chauhan administered the Khadi Pledge and shared inspiring words about the relevance of Khadi in sustainable fashion and responsible consumption.
Mr. Priyankar Rai appreciated the students’ creativity, encouraging them to integrate Khadi into contemporary design practices and contribute to promoting sustainable fashion.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates and awards to the winners of all competitions held during the week-long celebration. The dignitaries applauded the department’s efforts and the enthusiastic participation of students, marking a successful conclusion to Khadi Mahotsav 2025.

Outcome of the Activity: 

The Khadi Mahotsav 2025 successfully created awareness among students about the cultural, economic, and environmental significance of Khadi. Students gained practical exposure to sustainable design practices and developed a deeper appreciation for traditional Indian textiles. The competitions encouraged creativity, innovation, and active participation, helping students understand how Khadi can be reinterpreted in modern fashion.
Overall, the event strengthened the connection between students and India’s rich textile heritage while promoting the values of sustainability and self-reliance.
