Objective of the activity (workshop/seminar/activity/Visit): The primary goal of this workshop was to provide students with hands-on experience and practical knowledge in the field of textile design and printing. 

Description:

The Department of Fashion & Textiles organized a workshop on printing. Mr. Govind Ram, an esteemed expert with extensive experience as a technical dyer and printer at Banasthali University, served as the resource person for this workshop. His vast knowledge and expertise in the field were invaluable to the participants. 

First day of the workshop, students began by the initial stages of design development for screen printing. They draw their designs on special Kodak sheets and carefully applied black ink to make them stand out.

Govind Ji, the expert of this workshop demonstrated the process of fabric mounting onto the screen frame. With skillful hands, students learned how to expertly secure the fabric to the frame themselves.

Once the fabric was in place on the frame, they learned about the blue coating process. This step was carried out in a dark room to ensure the integrity of the blue coat. Exposure to light during this stage would harden the coating prematurely, making the dark room essential for its proper application. 

On the second day of the workshop, students learned about how to expose screens for printing. Resource person guided them through the process of preparing printing paste using procion dyes and pigment colours.

The day also featured an interesting demonstration of discharge printing. To achieve this, they initially dyed the fabric using direct dye, and then applied the discharge printing paste using methods like block printing, screen printing, and stenciling.

Furthermore, the resource person introduced students to another fascinating printing technique known as resist style printing, involving the use of naphthol dye. In this method, they applied the paste to the fabric before dyeing it. As a result, the areas with paste resisted picking up the dye, creating unique patterns.

Resource person explained each technique in detail, highlighting the differences, and applications of each method. After the informative sessions, students had the opportunity to put their newfound knowledge into practice. They engaged in hands-on printing exercises, where they experimented with the different printing techniques under Mr. Govind Ram's guidance. In addition to fabric printing, the workshop focused on the development of home textile products. Students worked on creating a range of items, including table covers, mats, cushions, and bed sheets.

The expertise knowledge of Mr. Govind Ram contributed to developing skill among the students which was informative as well as knowledgeable.

Outcome of the activity: The participants gained valuable insights into various types of printing, and they refined their skills through practical exercises. The combination of education and enjoyment made this workshop a memorable and enriching experience for the students.
