Objective of the activity - Students explored the variety of different hand block printed materials and tools that were showcased in the museum.
Description:
The Department of Fashion & Textiles organised a one-day visit to the Anokhi Museum, Jaipur on September 30, 2022. The Anokhi Museum is known for Hand Printing. It is situated in one of the prominent Havelis of Amer near Kheri Gate. Anokhi Museum represents the history, process and techniques of the traditional local craft of hand block printing. Students learned extensive information and techniques of block printing processes. Museum features Printing of Sanganer, Bagru, Ajrakh, and Bagh. Students visited the journey of grey clothes to finished cloth is displayed. different areas in the gallery museum containing tools used in the block printing process. The museum focuses on contemporary fabric range to traditional outfit.
Mr. Salim master craft man interacted with students and explained the block printing process using pigment dyes. He demonstrated how to make the blocks for block printing and also students printed small pieces of fabric in different colour.
The outcome of the activity: Students understood process of block carving and printing on fabric. They also appropriated various aspects of this ancient craft as they saw that various printed materials on display at the museum. This visit was extremely beneficial to the students as it expanded their knowledge an block printing as they learnt the art by doing.
