Objective: 

1.To incorporate the basic stitching techniques.

      2. To impart skill in sample making for apparels.

 

Unit I: 
Course Content:

Sewing Machines:                                                                                                                   10 hrs

  • Tools & equipment required for cutting & stitching                                      
  • Sewing machine and their special attachment
  • Main parts & functions of sewing machine
  • Care & Maintenance of sewing machine

 

Sample Making of the following basic hand stitches:                                                         15hrs

  • Temporary Stitches: Basting- Even & Uneven, Diagonal, Slip and Pin basting
  • Permanent: Running, Hemming, Backstitch, Whipping and Button hole

 

Machine Stitching:                                                                                                                 25hrs

  • Seams:   Topstitch seam, Counter, Lapped seam, Run n fell seam and French seam
  • Finishes:  Edge stitched, Overcast and Bound  seam

 

Disposable of fullness:

  • Pleats- Knife, Inverted, Accordion and Box pleats
  • Darts- Half and Full dart
  • Tucks- Pin, Cross
  • Gathers- By Hand & Machine          

Placket-Continuous wrap placket, two piece placket and slit opening

Trimmings –Lace and Braid

Facing & Bindings

Pocket –Inseam pocket, Kurta pocket and Patch pocket

Fasteners –Buttons & button hole, Shirt buttons- with and without shank, Press buttons, Hooks & eye and Zipper & its variations

 

Preparations of two articles using Hand sewing techniques and other Sewing machine techniques
