PRINCIPLES OF KNITTING
General Terms and Principles of Knitting Technology
Yarn quality requirement for knitting
Comparison between knitting and weaving.
Warp knitting and weft knitting.
Knitting elements

Unit II:
CLASSIFICATION OF KNITTED FABRIC
Weft knitting-plain or jersey, purl knit, rib knit, tuck & miss stitches
Warp knitting- tricot, rachel, milanese knit, simplex
Jacquard knitting, pile knit, fleece knit, terry knit and velour knit.
Elements of knitted loop structure.

KNITTING MACHINES
Knitting needles- latch needle, spring beard needle, compound needle
Circular knitting machines- Structure and function; Production of weft knitted fabrics like single jersey, double jersey, rib, interlock and purl.
Flat knitting machines- Structure and function; Production of structures like Cardigan, Half Cardigan, Racked Rib, Knops and Cable stitches.
Warp knitting machines- Production of fabrics like Rachel, Tricot, Lock knit, Crochet

GEOMETRY AND CALCULATIONS IN KNITTING
Loop structure
Determination of course, wale and stitch density
Calculation for feed and Control of yarn tension
Control of fabric Quality, Estimation of Run-in and Correct runner ratio.

TECHNIQUES FOR KNITWEAR PRODUCTION
Fully cut, fully fashioned and integral
Hosiery- full fashioned, circular or seamless, fashioned seamless, cut and tailored
Use of electronics and computers in knitting machines
