Report on Research Process & Challenges

Objective of the webinar:

The Guest Lecture on Research Process & Challenges was organized for all the students pursuing Masters of Fashion Design and Research scholars. The objective behind organizing the lecture was to enlighten the students about the process of research writing and Paper publication. 

Summary/Description: The Department of Fashion & Textiles is organized a webinar on “Research Process and Challenges” on 28th October 2021, at 2:00 PM. Dr. Madhu Sharan HOD & Professor, Dept. of Clothing & Textiles at Maharaja Sayajiro University of Baroda was the guest speaker. The webinar was attended by PG students, Research Scholars, and Faculty members of the Fashion & Textiles department.

The resource person mainly focused on the research process is as follows Formulating the research problem; Extensive literature survey; Developing the hypothesis; Preparing the research design; Determining sample design; Collecting the data; and Preparation of the report or presentation of the results.

The resource person stressed on the importance of review of literature also explained that researcher should not stop and should continue reviewing the existing literature till the time of data collection. She also gave insights on how to review the existing literature in a particular area of research, how to identify the research problem and research gap, how to formulate hypotheses, the errors involved in accepting and rejecting hypotheses i.e. Type I and Type II errors etc.

She also discussed in detail about writing a good research paper and further explained where, when and how to publish the research paper. She also highlighted on the importance of Citations and Plagiarism.

 Dr Sharan emphasized that the Research scholar must always highlight the importance of the research topic as it signifies his/her expression of work. The participants actively participated and their queries were addressed.

Outcome of the webinar

The students were extremely overwhelmed by the lecture delivered by Dr. Madhu Saran as it will help them in carrying the research. The students also extend their gratitude for informative lecture.
