Basics of Apparel Construction (Practical)
This course will enable students to develop skills in drafting, creating patterns, and constructing garments. It will also familiarize them with sewing skills, basic garment construction techniques, and the construction of garment components.
CO 25 Illustrate, Draft and Adapt patterns for various garment and garment components.
CO 26 Design and construct samples and garment for various garment components(knitting/woven)
CO 27 Compile comprehensive practical record and submission related to garment making
CO 28 Cultivate verbal communication skills to converse effectively with examiners.
CO 29 Contribute effective in course specific interaction.
CONTENT
I: Introduction of child basic block (20 Hours)
- Introduction to sewing machine: Mechanical, Electronic, Computerized, Overlock and Flatlock
- Demonstration of Leather stitching machine and fabric cutting machine
- Drafting and construction: Bodice, Sleeve & Skirt
- Analyse the fit of the constructed bodice, sleeves and skirt on dress form.
II: Illustrate (flat sketches) & adapt each of the following garment details. Construct 2 samples from each category: (50 Hours)
- Plackets- Continuous Placket, Two Piece Placket, Kurta Placket
- Necklines with Facing (Bias and Straight)- Round, Boat, Sweetheart, V-Neckline, Cowl
- Tucks & Gathers- Pin Tuck, Cross Tuck, Shell Tuck, Hand & Machine Gathers
- Pleats- Knife Pleat, Box Pleat, Inverted Pleat
- Pockets- Patch Pocket, Welt Pocket, Inseam Pocket
- Fasteners & Zippers
- Sleeves- Leg- O Mutton, Cap, Puff, Flared, Petal
- Collars- Sailor, Peter Pan, Chinese, Shirt Collar
- Yokes- V-Shape, Round and Straight
III: Garment Construction: (20 Hours)
- Drafting and construction of any one knitwear garment: T-Shirt/Sweat shirt/Track Pant
- Drafting and construction of any one woven garment: Shirt/ Frock
