Objective:

  • Concepts and specifications of colour
  • Light and colour phenomenon, physical basis of colour emissions, absorption of light
  • Chromatic circle, Primary, secondary and tertiary colours, complementary colours, Hues, Tints and Shades, colour intensity charts
  • Additive and Subtractive combinations.
  • Colour theories as light theory, pigment/ Brewster colour theory

  • Warm and cool colours
  • Colour harmony-Achromatic, Monochromatic, Analogous, change in hue and value, neutralized colour
  • Application of colour to woven fabrics
  • Colour in combination and colour in contrast in fabric and garment design

  • Design- Elements and principles of design and their application in designing
  • Types of motifs- Natural, decorative, geometric, abstract, stylized

  • Free hand sketching, enlarging and arrangement of motifs
  • Arrangement of figures – unit repeating design, all over repeat design, the drop device, drops reverse designs, sateen system of distribution (with reference to half drop), rectangular drop reverse, diamond base, ogee base, border patterns, all over patterns

  • Effect of raw material, weave and finish on the appearance and ornamentation of fabrics
