Draping

(Practical)

 

The Students will be able to:

  1. Identify tools and techniques for draping
  2. Experiment with different kinds of designs in draping.
  3. Estimate the fabric usage for draping of garment
  4. Evaluate and understand designs for draping the fabric.
  5. Prepare the body-form for draping the fabric.
  6. Develop draped patterns for different design styles using draping methods.

Workshop, Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Informative videos

Learning activities for the students:

Self-learning assignments, Class activity on creating various modification in a pattern

 

Assessment tasks will include Class Test, Semester end examinations, and Student presentations.

  • Draping principles
  • Preparation of muslin before draping
  • Draping and Construction of Basic bodice and basic skirt block
  • Adaptation of Bodice:                                                                       40 hrs
    • Manipulating dart excess at different locations
    • Dividing dart excess- Waist and side seam ; waist and shoulder
    • Dart equivalents – Gathers, pleats and tuck darts
    • Asymmetrical darts
    • Intersecting darts
    • Princess line
    • Halters
    • Cowl
  • Adaptation of Skirt:                                                                        34 hrs   
  • A-Line: Flared, Panel
  • Gathered
  • Pleated
  • Stylized yoke with flare, gathers and pleats
  • Peplons and Godets
  • Construction of one Top and one Skirt/ Dress according to the current trend using draping technique                                                                             34hrs
