Essentials Of Textiles

(Practical)

The Students will be able to:

 

  1. Understand the hand, feel, structure, properties and usage of different fabrics in fashion
  2. Apply the knowledge about various dyeing and printing processes.
  3. Employ various dyes on yarns/ fabrics of different fibers and fiber blends.
  4. Print textile fabrics in different styles using suitable dyes
  5. Identify and interpret various types of weaves.

Approach in teaching: Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Power Point Presentations, Informative videos

Learning activities for the students: Self-learning assignments, and development of Design sheets

 

 

Assessment tasks will include Class Test, Semester end examinations, and Student presentations.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Fibre, Yarns and Fabric Testing                                                                                                                                                                     30hrs
    • Identification of fibre: microscopic, chemical, burning
    • Yarn testing: yarn twist (single ply, fancy), thread count
    • Fabric testing: fabric weight, fabric thickness, fabric width, dimensional stability
  • Weave Identification                                                                                                                                                                                        36hrs
  • Prepare a scrap book of different type of fabrics according to the fabric construction techniques:                                                   
  • Woven Fabrics
  • Non-woven & Bonded Fabric collection
  • Knitted fabric collection and sample preparation

● Basic weaves identification fabric collection, construction and development of weaves on loom -plain, twill & sateen and their variations                                                                                             24hrs

  • Prepare a product on frame loom with different yarns
