Objective: 

This course will enable the students to -

  1. Explore testing techniques for fiber identification, yarn and fabric.
  2. Explore different weave types such as plain, twill and satin.
  3. Understand the classification of woven, knitted, Nonwovens and other fabrics based on structure and application.

CO.32 Identify and analyze various natural and synthetic fibers, yarns, and fabrics through classification and testing.

CO.33 Develop understanding of handloom and create samples of weaving on loom. 

CO.34 Compile comprehensive practical record and submission related to designs through weaving and cultivate verbal communication skills to converse effectively with examiners.

CO.35 Contribute effectively course-specific interaction

Approach in teaching: Interactive Lectures, Discussion, PowerPoint Presentations, Informative videos

Learning activities for the students: Self-learning assignments, and development of Design sheets

Assessment tasks will include Class Test, Semester end examinations, and Student presentations.

 

 

CONTENTS

Fibre, Yarns and Fabric Testing                                                                                  

o   Identification of fibre: microscopic, chemical, burning

o   Yarn testing: yarn twist (single ply, fancy), thread count 

o   Fabric testing: fabric weight, fabric thickness, fabric width, dimensional stability

Weave Identification

o   Prepare a scrapbook of different type of fabrics according to the fabric construction techniques:

o   Woven Fabrics

o   Non-woven & Bonded Fabric collection

o   Knitted fabric collection and sample preparation 

(20 Hours)

Basic weaves identification fabric collection, construction and development of weaves on loom -plain, twill & sateen and their variations                                                

·       Prepare a product with different yarns.
