The Students will be able to:

CO. 57Understand the hand, feel, structure, properties and usage of different fabrics in fashion

CO. 58 Apply the knowledge about various dyeing and printing processes

CO. 59 Employ various dyes on yarns/ fabrics of different fibers and fiber blends.

CO. 60Print textile fabrics in different styles using suitable dyes

CO. 61 Identify and interpret various types of weaves.

Approach in teaching: Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Power Point Presentations, Informative videos

Learning activities for the students: Self-learning assignments, and development of  Design sheets

Unit I: 
CONTENT

Collection and preparation of scrap book of fabric according to classification of fibre:                                                                   20 hrs

  • Identification of fibre: microscopic, chemical, burning
  • Yarn testing : yarn twist (single ply, fancy), thread count
  • Fabric testing: fabric weight, fabric thickness, fabric width, dimensional stability
  • Shade card development through various dyes:                           26 hrs
  • Cotton: direct, reactive, vat
  • Silk: acid and azoic
  • Wool: acid & basic
  • Synthetic : disperse
  • Printing: block , screen and  tie & dye

                                                                                                                           

  • Prepare a scrap book of different type of fabrics according to the fabric construction techniques:                                                       26 hrs      
  • Basic weaves fabric collection and  preparation of basic weaves (plain, twill & sateen and their variations) on loom
  • Knitted fabric collection and  preparation
  • Non-woven & Bonded Fabric collection

                 

  • Analysis of cotton, wool, silk and synthetic fabric:                       18 hrs                           
  • Identification of weaves
  • Identification of blends using chemicals
