Objective: 

This course will acquaint students with the techniques of flat patternmaking, develop their skills in grading, and prepare them in construction knowledge for blouses and leg wear.

Flat Pattern Design (Practical)

CO 63 Construct and adapt basic blocks through pattern making and grading techniques for specific garments, collars, sleeves & leg wear in different sizes.

CO 64 Analyze and interpret the dart manipulation techniques for desired fit in a garment.

CO 65 Compile comprehensive practical record and submission for garment construction

CO 66 Cultivate verbal communication skills to converse effectively with examiners.

CO 67 Contribute effective in course specific interaction.

Approach in teaching:

Discussions, Demonstration of different pattern making techniques,

Learning Activities for the students: Self-learning assignments hands-on making of sample and garment, practical activity with

weekly submission.

Assessment task will

CONTENT

I: Pattern making                                                          (12 Hours)

  • Introduction of pattern making technique: Drafting, Flat Pattern and Draping
  • Drafting of adult basic Bodice, Skirt, Sleeve and Trouser block

II: Dart manipulation for bodice                                           (22 Hours)

  • Dart Displacement (Slash, spread method & Pivot method)
  • Dart Concealment
  • Added fullness
  • Decorative Darts

III: Adaptation                                                                     (22 Hours)

  • Sleeves: Raglan, Kimono, Dolman, Magyar & Bishop
  • Collars- Shawl &Rever collar
  • Skirt with Yokes- A-Line, gathered, panel and circular
  • Leg wears- Salwar, Culottes, Parallel Pants, Fitted trousers/ Wide- leg trousers

IV: Construct the following garments using the above adaptations 

                                                                                           (20 Hours)

Top with sleeves

  • Saree blouse
  • Legwear

V: Grading                                                                            (14 Hours)     

  • Methods of grading- Tracks and Stack Method
  • Grading of adult basic bodice, sleeve, skirt & Trouser block
