GARMENT MAKING -I

The students will be able to

CO14.Identify tools for Cutting, Sewing & Finishing.

CO15.Select suitable fabric, suitable needle size and sewing thread according to the fabric.

CO16.Analyse varieties of fabrics.

CO17.Develop an understanding of fabric preparation for cutting.

CO18.Construct the edges and seam allowances of the fabric using seams and stitches.

Approach in teaching: Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Power Point Presentations, Informative videos, field visit

Assessment tasks will include Class Test on the given topics, labswork, record book assessment,

Viva-voce, Attendance Assignment

 

CONTENT:

 

I: Prepare a swatch book with a variety of fabrics.                               10 hrs.

II. Introduction to Sewing                                                                           3 hrs.

●        Machine –Treadle and Electric motor

●        Basic parts of sewing machine and its attachments

●        Defects and Remedies of sewing machine

●        Threading of machine, Bobbin winding & loading

●        Safety precautions while during the stitching

III: Preparation of fabric before stitching.                                                 1 hrs.

IV: Sewing machine practice on paper and fabric                                     5 hrs.

Straight lines, Square, Zigzag lines, Circle, Semicircle, and Spiral                                                  

V: Stitches  & Seams:   

●        Basic Hand Stitches                                                        15 hrs.  Basting, Running, Back Stitch, Hemming (visible and invisible), button hole, blanket

●        Seams and Seam finishes                                                25 hrs.

Plain, pinked, overcasting, Hong Kong seam, bound seam, french seam, top seam, corded seam, lapped seam, slot seam

VI: Demonstration of Fabric Cutting Machine                                           1 hrs.
