This course will enable the students to -

1.     Impart in-depth knowledge of pattern making and garment construction techniques.

2.     Develop and understand the principles of pattern making through flat pattern.

Pattern Making and Construction- I (Practical)

 

The Students will be able to:

CO.97 Analyze the standard measurements system

CO.98 Recognize various method of pattern making and construction

CO.99 Familiarize with the concept of drafting, flat pattern and draping

CO.100 Applyand utilize value addition of garments

CO.101 Construct the basic knowledge and designing into the garments

Approach in teaching: Interactive Lectures, Discussion, Power Point Presentations, Informative videos

Learning activities for the students: Self-learning assignments, and development of  patterns

Assessment tasks will include Class Test, Semester end examinations, and Student presentations.

 

 

 

Unit I: 
Course Content:

●        Introduction to Pattern Making                                         4hrs

  • Taking body measurements for child: Length, width, circumference                           
  • Introduction to various methods of Pattern Making and its importance           
    • Drafting,
    • Flat pattern
    • Draping
  • Introduction to basic tools used in pattern making and sewing techniques

●    Drafting:                                                                        16hrs               o   Drafting of child’s bodice block , skirt block, sleeves block and sample construction  

●        Drafting, adaptation and construction of the following:       30hrs

o    Skirt - A-line, Gathered and Umbrella       

o    Sleeves – Plain, Puff, Flared, Petal and Cap                                          

o    Collars – Peter-pan (Flat, Raised) cape collar, sailor and Convertible

o    Yokes - Round, V-Shaped and Shaped (bodice & skirt blocks)

o    Pockets- Patch with Pleat, Patch with Flap, Set-in, welt

●    Designing (flat sketch), Pattern Making & Construction of one of each garment with value addition:                                  40 hrs
