This course will enable the students to understand the hand, feel, structure of woven & knits with their properties and usage in textiles. Students will assess the quality and suitability of fiber/yarn/fabrics for various purposes.

CO12:Analyze the fiber, yarn/fabric testing methods and prepare basic weaves.

CO13:Develop fabric structure using handloom and create woven products for apparel and home furnishings.

CO14:Compile comprehensive practical records related to fiber/yarn/fabric testing, fabric manufacturing with weaving.

CO15:Develop verbal communication skills to converse effectively with examiners.

Approach in teaching: Interactive lecture, Demonstration, Power point presentations, Market survey, Industry visit, Relevant videos

 

Learning activities for the students: Self-learning assignments, analysing fabric samples, working on loom, product development

  1. Weaving                                                                                                                                                                                                             (30 Hours)

Market survey and collection of swatches from various sources and prepare a scrapbook of fabric samples for:

  • Types of fabrics: Woven and Knitted
  • Identification of Basic Weaves
  • Plain, Twill, Satin and Sateen weave
  • Construction of Basic weaves on loom- Plain, Twill, Satin            

(Weave Representation: Weaving plan, weave repeat, lifting plan)             

  1. Exploration and identification of the above fiber/fabrics through:
