Orientation Report

(2018-19)

 

Day 1

The IIS University marked the beginning of its academic year by organizing an orientation programme ABHINANDAN 2018 on Friday, 6th July at the ICG campus in the Vinayak Hall. The programme was divided into various sessions. It began at 9:00am with an introductory session in which Prof. Ila Joshi Head Dept. of Home Science interacted with the parents.

Students, were  welcomed with tikka-moli ceremony, and the session began with the university prayer followed by the welcome message, from the honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ashok Gupta.

Then the students were taken to a virtual tour of the campus through a presentation given by Dr. Aastha Saxena Assistant Prof., Dept. of Journalism and Mass Communication.

This was followed by, presentation by Prof. Ila Joshi. She introduction students to the various faculty members of respective departments. At 10:30am, there was an inspirational session conducted by Prof. Satish K. Batra Deputy Director cum Advisor, BhartiyaVidhya Bhavan, Jaipur Kendra and also a motivational speaker with more than 45 years of experience. He inspired the students to live freely and to dream big without any fear.

This session was followed by the session with; Prof. K. S. Sharma Advisor, the IIS deemed to be University. He acquainted the students with the systems and the operations of the university. Dr. Rimika Singhvi Head, department of English) took over the session and elaborated further on COSD and various other short-term courses offered by the university.

And the last session of Day 1 was with Prof. Nisha Yadav Controller of Examination, The IIS University, which helped the students to understand the assessment and evaluation criteria followed at the university.

The programme was concluded with the campus visit in which students were taken to their respective departments/classrooms/labs/Campus visit, etc.

Day 2

The second day of the orientation began with a session with Dr. Monica Sharma (Clinical Psychologist and Counselor at IIS (deemed to be University). Then students were taken to the draping lab where they had a guest lecture with .Ms. Shruti Vyas, Entrepreneur. She gave an introduction on careers in Fashion streams. Then, in Clothing Lab, students had some fun activities conducted by Ms. Yogita Joshi Faculty, Dept. of Fashion and Textiles).  Then, Prof. Radha Kashyap Head, Dept. of Fashion and Textiles gave detailed information about the course structure, credit system, examinations scheme and activities conducted in Department. She also introduced the students with faculty members. After this session, students were given a short lunch break.

After lunch break, the students were brought back to the Vinayak Hall for the session based on the metacampus conducted by Dr. Nidhi Sharma Associate Prof., Dept. of Economics.

Next session was with Dr. Radhika Sharma Head Dept. of Biotechnology. She briefed the students about the Do’s and Don’ts at the university.

Then, Dr. Roopam Kothari Head Dept. of Human Resource Management gave presentation on healthy practices in Campus. Then the students were taken to their respective departments.

In the clothing lab, students of Fashion Design were shown the presentation based on the previous fashion shows held at the university.  A brief introduction of how various collections were made, their source of inspiration and a collective pictorial collection of glimpse of some rounds were shown to them.

Day 3

The third day began with the screening of the short films and documentaries at 9:30 by students of Mass Communication followed, by a motivational talk.

After this lecture, students were directed towards the Draping Lab, where guest lecturer by Dr. Sangeeta Singh. Artist cum freelance designer and Educator, conducted an activity, in which she asked the students to work in groups and drape a dummy with the help of the waste brown papers or the old newspapers. She focused on the importance of identifying the element of art in designs. It was a fun activity, which allowed the students to interact with each other and work in groups to create something unique, using their creativity. The students give the presentation of designs created and thereafter students were given a short lunch break.

After the break, the students were taken back to the Vinayak Hall, where they attended sessions on:  Placement session by Ms. Shivi Saxena, the Extra and Co-curricular activities by Dr. Shilpi Rijhwani, Central Library Facilities were talked about by Prof. Deepa Pareek and the preparatory classes for Civil Services by Ms. Ridh sidh Singh.

At the end of the third day, students were filled in the feedback form of the three-day orientation programme.
