Objective of the activity: To provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of a leading textile and fashion manufacturing company. The aim was to help students understand various processes involved in apparel production, from design conception to final retail, and to connect classroom knowledge with industry practices.

Description: 

The Department of Fashion & Textiles organized an educational visit to an export house, "Vasansi," for students of B.Sc Fashion Design and M.A/M.Sc./M.Com Fashion Design (Semester II). The visit aimed to enhance students' knowledge of fabric printing, dyeing, embroidery techniques, and garment production processes.

 

During the visit, students were given a comprehensive tour of the following departments:

Design Department: 

Students witnessed how initial concepts are developed, with insights into fabric selection, colour combinations, embroidery patterns, and the latest design trends. They interacted with designers and learned about digital tools used for design visualization.

Printing and Dyeing Unit: 

The students observed traditional and modern techniques such as hand block printing, screen printing, and natural dyeing processes. The team explained how Vasansi preserves Rajasthani craftsmanship of Block Printings while integrating contemporary aesthetics into designs.

Embroidery and Handwork Section:

The students were exposed to a wide range of embellishment techniques, including zari, zardozi, Mirror work Gota Patti work, Aari Tari work, Sequin Bead work and thread embroidery. 

Cutting and Stitching Department:

In Cutting Department, students learnt the precision of how cutting machine cuts layers of fabric in single phase. Students also learned about pattern making, garment construction, and industrial machinery used in stitching. They also observed quality control measures taken at each step of the production.

The outcome of the activity: The visit proved to be a beneficial learning experience for students. It provided insights into:

  • Different methods of dyeing, printing, and embroidery.

  • The significance of sustainability in textile manufacturing.

  • The workflow of garment production, from fabric processing to the final product.
