Orientation Report

Activity: Department Orientation programme UG/PG/GPEM Fashion Design.

Objective: The Department of Fashion & Textiles organized an orientation programme to welcome new students and introduce them to their academic journey. The aim was to help students understand the different courses and activities that will provide them with quality education. Alumnae shared their experiences, and interactive activities were held to prepare the students for success in the field of Fashion & Textiles.

 

The orientation for the new batch of B.Sc. Fashion Design, BA/B.Sc./B.Com GPEM, and MA/M.Sc./M.Com. Fashion Design students started in Vinayak Hall with a warm welcome for alumnae as well as the students. The programme began with a presentation about the department covering its achievements, vision, and different activities and opportunities that takes place within the department for students.

 

Dr. Radha Kashyap, Director of the School of Design, gave the first welcome speech, wishing the students success in their studies. This was followed by another welcome speech from Dr. Sulekha Ojha, Head of the Department of Fashion & Textiles, who encouraged the students to make the most of the resources and opportunities the department offers.

 

Next, the faculty members introduced themselves and gave a detailed presentation about the department. The faculty members explained curriculum subject wise credits with programme outcome and learning outcome along with the assessment and evaluation pattern. Further the students were acquainted with the timetable, classroom and laboratory locations, departmental activities, and the academic calendar for the year. They also informed the students about library resources, online learning platforms, and the department’s workshops/activities. The upcoming annual fashion show was highlighted, along with the achievements of alumni who have made a mark in the fashion industry.

 

Students then watched a video of the annual fashion show, CREATIONS 25, which gave them a closer look at how the show is planned and executed, as well as the creativity and teamwork involved in putting it together.

             

 

 

An interactive session with Ms. Bijoya Laxmi, an alumna of the Fashion Design batch of 2011 and founder of Fashmore Design Studio in Jaipur, was one of the highlights of the orientation. She shared her journey from being a student at ICG to working with leading brands in India and abroad, and eventually launching her own label. Her story of dedication and vision inspired the students, as she encouraged them to follow their passion, work hard, and make the most of every opportunity in the field of fashion.

 

As part of the orientation event, the Department of Fashion & Textiles organized a lively ice-breaking session led by Semester III and V students for the freshers. The aim was to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, helping the newcomers settle comfortably into their new academic environment. The session included a variety of fun games that encouraged interaction and teamwork. Adding to the excitement, both senior and new students gave energetic dance performances, filling the hall with enthusiasm and applause. The event wrapped up with a cheerful jamming session, where students from all years joined in, singing and dancing together. This vibrant ending left everyone with a strong sense of unity and friendship, setting the tone for a collaborative and supportive year ahead.

 

Learning Outcome: The orientation programme for B.Sc. Fashion Design students at the Department of Fashion & Textiles on 11 August 2025 gave a complete introduction to the department’s vision, structure, and opportunities. Students learned about the curriculum, departmental activities, and co- curricular options through detailed faculty presentations, building a clear understanding of academic expectations. An inspiring session with alumna, motivated the students to pursue their passions with dedication and creativity. The ice-breaking activities led by the Student Council encouraged peer interaction and helped build a sense of community among the new students.
