Objective: The departmental orientation by the Department of Fashion & Textiles aimed to introduce incoming students to their academic journey about the different courses which will help to foster them with quality education. Alumnae insight about their experiences and Interactive activities fostered students, ensuring they are well-prepared for success in Fashion & Textiles.

The orientation programme for the new batch of B.Sc. Fashion Design, BA/B.Sc./B.Com GPEM, MA/M.Sc./M.Com. Fashion Design students began with a warm welcome to the faculties and students in Vinayak Hall. The session kicked off with the screening of the department profile through a video presentation, which provided an insightful overview of the department's achievements, vision, and offerings.

Dr. Radha Kashyap, Director of the School of Design, delivered the welcome address, extending her best wishes to the students for their academic journey. This was followed by a welcome address by Dr. Sulekha Ojha, Head of the Department of Fashion & Textiles, who shared her insights and encouraged the students to take full advantage of the opportunities that the department has to offer.

A detailed presentation by the faculty members of the Department of Fashion & Textiles followed, during which they introduced themselves and provided an overview of the curriculum, departmental activities, and various opportunities available to the students. In a comprehensive presentation, each faculty member explained different aspects of the department's functioning. Key topics covered included the timetable, classroom and laboratory locations, various departmental activities, and the activity calendar for the academic year, access to the library resources, online learning platforms, and the department's best practices. The faculty members also highlighted the upcoming annual fashion show, and the remarkable achievements of the department's outstanding alumni who have carved a niche in the industry.

The students were then treated to a screening of the annual fashion show, CREATIONS 24. This gave them an insight into the functioning and execution of the fashion show, showcasing the creativity, hard work, and coordination required to bring such events to life.

An interactive session with Masha Afreen, an alumna of the MA Fashion Design batch of 2020-22 and founder of Masha Apparels, was one of the highlights of the orientation. Masha shared her journey from being a student to establishing her brand, inspiring the new students with her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication. She motivated the students by emphasizing the importance of passion, perseverance, and creativity in the field of fashion.

As part of the orientation event, the Department of Fashion & Textiles hosted an engaging ice-breaking session facilitated by Semester III and V students for the freshers. The session was designed to create a warm and inclusive environment, helping newcomers transition smoothly into their academic journey. Filled with interactive games and activities, the session fostered camaraderie and connection, allowing freshers to feel at ease among their peers. Activities brought laughter and enjoyment while enhancing teamwork and communication skills. The Semester III and V students led these activities with great enthusiasm, actively encouraging participation and engagement from the freshers. The session concluded with a strong sense of unity and camaraderie, as students broke down barriers and established meaningful connections with one another, setting the tone for a collaborative and supportive academic year ahead.

The orientation program was a successful and engaging start to the academic year, leaving the students motivated and excited for their journey ahead in the Department of Fashion & Textiles.

Learning Outcome: The orientation program for B.Sc. Fashion Design students at the Department of Fashion & Textiles on 23 August 2024 provided a comprehensive introduction to the department's vision, structure, and opportunities. Students learned about the curriculum, departmental activities, and co-curricular options through presentations by faculty members, fostering an understanding of academic expectations. The screening of the annual fashion show, CREATIONS 24, offered insights into event management and the creative process of organizing fashion events. An inspiring session with alumna Masha Afreen, founder of Masha Apparels, motivated students by highlighting the importance of creativity and entrepreneurship in the fashion industry. The ice-breaking activities led by the Student Council encouraged peer interaction and helped build a sense of community among the new students, preparing them to actively engage in the department's vibrant culture and opportunities.
