Objective of the activity (workshop/seminar/activity/Visit)– To introduce students to the design process and highlighting its significance in creating a collection of garments for Fashion Show.
Description:
An Orientation Session was conducted by the department of Fashion & Textiles for the upcoming Fashion Show i.e., Creations 2025. Ms. Dristi Goswami, an alumna of IIS (deemed to be University), was invited as a speaker. The session begins with a warm welcome of the speaker from the highlighting the significance of the event. She guided the students through the intricacies of fashion design and the creative process.
Ms. Dristi explained the design process in creating a line of collection for the fashion show. She emphasized on the importance of having a concept that connects to a specific theme and to understand the target audience. She encouraged students to research current trends and gather information for inspiration by using mood boards to visualize their theme and ideas. She advised them to sketch their initial designs, focusing on silhouettes and other details, and then refine those sketches into final concepts. She also advised that students should explore the market for the selection of the fabric according to the latest trend. She further discussed the importance to conduct fit tests to make sure each garment meets fitting standards.
She further shared her insights on the latest trends and to stay tuned with trend forecasting for the development of line collection. She highlighted the need for innovation and originality, encouraging students to think beyond traditional designs. Additionally, she offered practical tips on colour and trend forecasting, selecting themes, and preparing design boards. The students were engaged in asking questions and seeking ideas about their own designs. Her guidance not only provided them with valuable knowledge but also boosted their confidence and excitement as they prepared for the Fashion Show.
Outcome of the activity:
The orientation session for the fashion show, with Ms. Dristi Goswami as a speaker, was a key experience for the students. Her knowledge and advice helped students to better understand the theme for fashion show and connect their ideas with the overall vision. She motivated the students to build their confidence and encourage them to explore their creativity in design process and think outside the box.
