No. of Participants: 55 students (B.Sc. Fashion Design (Sem I, II & III), M.Sc. (Sem I & II), and COSD)
Objective of the Activity: The objective of the guest lecture was to enhance students understanding of the fashion industry, from concept development to runway presentation, and to inspire creative thinking. It aimed to motivate students to pursue their passion confidently while integrating cultural heritage and sustainability into their designs.
Description: The Department of Fashion and Textiles conducted an interactive guest lecture titled “Fashion to Runway” by Mr. Abhimanyu Singh Tomar, a distinguished fashion choreographer, stylist, and model mentor with over 18 years of experience in the Indian fashion industry. He is the founder of Style Skool, established in 2015, a premier modelling academy that has trained many models for national and international fashion weeks.
Mr. Tomar shared his inspiring journey from being a government employee to following his passion for fashion, motivating students to pursue their dreams fearlessly. He also introduced designer Vaishali S, appreciating her sustainable design philosophy and global success. The session was highly engaging as students participated by discussing their favourite designers and exchanging creative idea.
He explained the concept and importance of mood boards, detailing their components such as colour palettes, fabric swatches, inspirations, and silhouettes. Encouraging students to draw inspiration from their surroundings, he illustrated how simple visuals—like a sunset or a girl walking through a forest—can spark unique design ideas. He also talked about how traditional Indian techniques like zari work and intricate embroidery can be used in modern fashion to create new designs that still reflect our culture. Overall, the session was insightful and motivational, providing students a deeper understanding of creativity, observation, and culture heritage in fashion design. Mr. Tomar expertise and inspiring words left a lasting impression, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world fashion practice.
Outcome of the Activity: The guest lecture by Mr. Abhimanyu Singh Tomar was an enriching experience that broadened students’ understanding of the fashion industry and encouraged them to think more creatively. His insights inspired them with renewed passion, confidence, and dedication to pursue their goals with originality and self-belief.
