Objective of the activity: To enable students to understand the Trends in Fashion, to start your own label and sustainability.

Descriptions:

The Department of Fashion and Textiles organized a Guest Lecture on 7th June, 2021 for the students of BSc. Fashion Design Semester VI from 1:00 to 2:00PM on “Fashion’s Way Forward” on Microsoft teams. The guest lecture was delivered by Ms. Mitali Patni who is an IIS alumini has done her course on Fashion Styling from London College of Fashion. The guest speaker Ms. Mitali Patni has her own label named as VAIBHAV & MITALI, The lecture was attended by 16 students of Fashion and Textile Department.

She enlightened the students about fashion Trends. She explained the role  of research in trends setting. She stressed the more one explores, the more knowledge one gains. She told that trend forecasting is mainly about predicting fashion trends including colors, fabrics, silhouette, patterns, styles and more of clothing collection for upcoming seasons. Today's market moves much more quickly than in the past due to social media and higher consumption rates. Trends can change seemingly overnight, and forecasting helps brands adapt quickly to these changes. Forecasting agencies plays key role in setting up the latest trend in fashion and how designer develop their collections  or line according to the trend.

The next very informative thing she mentioned was the importance of sustainable fashion for our environment and also motivated students to use fabric waste in design development. She emphasized the use of environment friendly fabrics like sustainable cotton, bamboo, lotus etc is very good for the environment and betterment of our future.

She highlighted about tips on how to start your own clothing label and what goes into the life of a designer to do their own startups. She emphasized on the fact that having a work experience into the field of designing before starting your own label is a MUST!

Overall, it was a very informative and interesting session. The students got to learn a lot of things from the speaker and were very inspired by her lecture to how put the fashion’s way forward.

The session ended with some questions and a thankyou note presented for Ms Mitali patani.

Outcome of the activity: The lecture was very fruitful for the students, as they learnt forecasting trends, sustainability in today’s time and startup your own label.
