Topic on which activity was organized: Knowledge and awareness on handloom.

No. of Participants: 02 (Quiz) + 15 (Fashion Show) B.Sc. Fashion Design students sem III & V

Objective of the activity (workshop/seminar/activity/Visit): To promote handloom products globally and sensitize students and public about the significance of Indian heritage of handlooms and raise awareness among students about intricate workmanship of handloom weavers and handloom textiles.

Description:

Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD), Jaipur and RHDC (Rajasthan handloom development corporation) in collaboration with Rajasthan Government organized a quiz competition and Fashion Show on National Handloom Week celebration in which students from various colleges/Universities were invited and participated including Amity University, MNIT University, VGU University, IIS deemed to be University, Manipal University, Pearl Academy, Arch college of Design & Business., Ellen School of Design , Poddar College and Government Women Polytechnic colleges etc.

The competition had multiple rounds: The first round, where each question was for a specific team and the second round, which was a buzzer round with negative marking whereas the third round was an audio-visual round. Students from various universities/colleges participated in quiz competition and Ms.Kumodini Rajawat and Ms.Diksha Khatri of Department of Fashion & Textiles from IIS (deemed to be University) emerged as the winner after successfully navigating these rounds. They were awarded prizes by Smt. Shakuntala Rawat, the Minister of Industry and Commerce for Rajasthan. Overall, this event not only engaged students but also contributed to the promotion of traditional handicraft and handloom.

Fashion Show: Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Rajasthan in collaboration with Indian Institute of Crafts and Design, (IICD) Jaipur organized Fashion Show Supported by Lady Bamford Foundation, Nila House to celebrate Indian Handlooms and Handicrafts. Students from various institutes and colleges were participated in this fashion show. From the Department of Fashion & Textiles (IIS deemed to be University) two groups participated in the fashion show. The themes were Blue Allure and Maverick Ethos from B.Sc. Fashion Design Sem V and Sem III respectively. There were total 5 designers from Sem V, Mansha Jain, Nisha Khatri, Tanvi Anandka, Kritika Kumawat, Tanishka Rathore and 8 designers from B.Sc. Fashion Design Sem III Shruti Soni, Kanishka Rathore, Bhavika Jain, Mnatasha Khan, Rafiya Khan, Roshni Jain, Bhavya Sharma, Neha Doshi. 

 On 3rd August the students were invited for a preliminary meeting regarding discussion about styling of garments and Ramp walk. Fashion Show was held on 6th August 2023, at RIC (Rajasthan International Centre) and where students from various institutes displayed their collections on ramp inspired from traditional Handloom, Handicrafts like block printing & embroidery & Khadi. There were total 21 teams which participated in fashion show which includes Colleges, NGO’s, Designers, Stores and the Chief Guest of the fashion show was “Mr. Rajiv Arora”.  

       

  

 

Outcome of the activity:

Handloom Quiz Competition and fashion show brings honor not only to the students but also to the institution. It showcases the high standards of education and the nurturing environment that we provide to the students. Students not only demonstrated their knowledge and intellect but also showcased their commitment to academic excellence and dedication to extracurricular activities.
