Objective of the activity (workshop)- The main focus of the workshop was to create opportunities and developed ideas for textile innovation.
Description:
The Department of Fashion & Textiles organised an international workshop on Design Thinking for Textile Innovation by Ms. Piyanut Jingit, Assistant Professor at Rajamangala University of Technology, Thanyaburi, Thailand on August 23rd, 2022.
Ms. Piyanut discussed about recent textile innovation in the industry. She explained the design the Design thinking concept that it is a non-linear, iterative process that consists of Empathic, Ideate, Prototype, and Test.
She explained with the help of the picture office shadow that design thinking process has both a scientific and artistic sides. She further emphasizes on understanding the restrictive patterns of thinking into innovative way to generate solutions. She further explained the technique used for design thinking was brainstorming, Brain writing, Worst Possible Ideas, and SCAMPER. She explained how brainstorming Idea techniques are typically used at the start of the ideation stage to stimulate free creative thinking and to examine the problem space. She discussed prototype the third phase of design thinking, which aims to identify the best possible solution for design creation
During the final phase test and evaluation, she explained the design thinking process, the designers or evaluators rigorously test the complete product using the best solutions identified in the Prototype stage.
The outcome of the activity: The lecture was beneficial for as it will help in enhancing and generating innovative ideas for application of design for product development.
