Objective of the activity:

The competition aimed to promote awareness and appreciation for handloom and traditional crafts among young individuals. Additionally, an exhibition was held concurrently, showcasing student creativity and products made from handloom and hand-woven fabric.

Summary/Description

On July 14th, 2023, the Department of Fashion & Textiles at IIS (deemed to be University) in Jaipur, in collaboration with the Weaver Service Center, and RHDC Jaipur organized the Interschool Handloom Quiz Competition. A total of 80 students from 7 schools enthusiastically participated in the Interschool Handloom Quiz Competition. Total 27 teams, in each with contestant of two students each activity participated in the quiz competition.

The event witnessed a high level of engagement and active involvement from all the participants.

Simultaneously, the exhibition provided a remarkable opportunity for, students to explore and understand the knowledge about handloom and textiles. This exhibition provided a platform for students to learn the artistic skills and creativity showcased in the exhibition. The exhibition not only allowed students to display their creations but also served as a means to deepen their appreciation for traditional crafts and further explore the world of textiles.

A demo was organized in block printing for the budding student by the faculty of department so that student understand the process by learning by doing.

A demonstration on cold Tie & Dye by Ms. Raj Dholia was trainer Pidilite also showed to the student where they learnt the steps of folding the fabric and the outcome of the various style of design by colouring it.

The much awaited result of the quiz was announced, where winners were:

1st: Harshika Gaur & Swanandi Lakhdive from Subodh Public School, Jaipur. 

2nd: Mansi Mishra & Laika Varjani from India International School, Jaipur. 

3rd: Bhavika Rathore & Vedika Sharma from Brightlands Girls Senior Secondary School, Jaipur.

At the end of the events certificates and momentos were given to the winners and to all the participants by the Prof. T.N. Mathur - Vice Chancellor, IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur, Mr. Tapan Sharma - Director Weaver Service Centre Jaipur, Dr.Radha Kashyap - Director, School of Design and Dr. Sulekha Ojha- Head, Dept.of Fashion & Textiles.

The programme was closed by a group photograph followed by refreshments.

Outcome of the activity:

Overall, the quiz competition and exhibition left a lasting impact, inspiring students and fostering a greater appreciation for the rich heritage of handloom and textiles. It was a great experience for 90 students to explore the artistic skills and gain a deeper appreciation for traditional crafts and handloom.
