Objective of the activity (workshop): The main focus of the activity was to apply the concept of Sustainability through Up cycling, Re-using and Redesigning.
Description:
The Department of Fashion & Textiles organized a two days exhibition cum sale ““Nav-Aakar” on 13th & 14th October 2023 in Srijan hall. The Exhibition was inaugurated by honorable Chancellor. In the exhibition the products were developed by the students from converting old or discarded materials into a new innovative product.
The goal of up cycling was to reuse and redesign the products by making use of existing discarded material. This process reduces the consumption of new raw materials while creating new products. The range of the products developed by students included Stoles, Bags, Pouches, Scarves, Cushion Covers, Skirts, Scrunchies, Frocks, Kurtis, etc. A total number of 400 garments/ accessories were displayed. All teaching and non-teaching faculty members and the students of the university were cordially invited in the exhibition to watch the efforts of the students. Products displayed for the sale were at a very nominal price. The Exhibition was appreciated by the visitors for commendable work done by the students. The total footfall for the exhibition was approximately 250 people.
Stalls related to developing entrepreneurial skills among students were also displayed so that they can learn the product category, marketing strategy and pricing of the product. The main objective behind this exhibition was to spread awareness among students towards sustainability through up cycling, reuse and to give students the platform where they could showcase their creative talents which would help them develop their designing and entrepreneurial skills.
Outcome of the activity:
Students got an opportunity to display and sell their products which motivated them. An amount of Rs. 9160/- was generated from this exhibition cum sale which was deposited to the University.
