Objective of the workshop:

  • To Identify and understand the craft techniques of tie and dye, liquid embroidery and batik.
  • To explore the possibilities of fabric embellishment through various contemporary ways.
  • To develop products through innovative techniques learnt during workshop.

Summary/Description:

Department of Fashion & Textiles of the IIS (deemed to be University), organized three days’ workshop for Career Oriented and Skill Development Programme students. The resource person for the same was Ms. Raj Dholiwal, Senior Art & Craft Instructor, Pidilite, Jaipur

The resource person started with an introduction and demonstrated on the process of Shibori Tie-dye and Liquid embroidery. The process of tie-dye typically consists of folding, twisting, pleating, or crumpling fabric or garment and binding with string or rubber bands, followed by application of dye. It is a technique for a variety of ways of embellishing textiles by shaping cloth and securing it before dying. In other techniques, with help of liquid embroidery design and pattern are created with the tiny dotted line with the help of 3 D outliner.

Students showed inclination towards the workshop and value added the t-shirt, shirt with shibori technique and made mobile covers, yokes, cushion covers, bags and fashion accessories with the help of liquid embroidery. This activity helped only to enhance not creativity but also the presentation skills .The workshop was very fruitful for the students and the students learnt the techniques enthusiastically. This workshop helped them to create their own products in a short of span of time.  

Outcome of the workshop:

Students developed skills about using the different mediums of the colours and developed variety of products.
