Report on Industrial visit at Rangotri, Jaipur

A visit was organised by the Department of  Fashion and Textile at Rangotri on 15th July 2017 for all the students of  B.Sc. Fashion Design (semester- III), B.Sc. Fashion Technology (semester-V), B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Garment Production & Export Management (semester-III) and B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Garment Production & Export Management (semester -V).The main objective behind the visit was to make the students aware about the various activities related to block printing are carried out in a Hand Block Printing Unit.

   

 

Thirty one students, along with the two faculty members left the campus at 10.30am and it took about fifteen minutes to cover the distance.

Rangotri is located in Sanganer, Jaipur. As soon as the students reached Rangotri, Thereafter, students were divided in two groups and went to explore the different sections of the industry. They were guided by Mr. Hemant who briefed the students about the various steps involved in the manufacturing of textile goods, starting from the grey fabric.

Students were taken to the backyard, there were two Store rooms in which the pre-treated grey fabric was stored. In another side of the backyard, there were two long tables on which the pigment colours were being used for the block-printing. There was a room in which two workers were sitting and carving the design on wooden blocks using a tool.

In the basement of the unit, there was a block room which was full from different designs of blocks and on the other side there was a printing section in which ten to twelve tables were there where printing was carried on.

There were water tanks for washing the fabrics in backyard. After drying of printed fabric it is taken for washing. Near the washing tanks plant for neutralize the waste dyeing water which was there for plantation.

On the first floor of the same unit, there were sewing machines for production. There was Quality control section where checking of the printed fabric was done. In case of printing, weaving or dyeing defect then the rejected fabric was sent for retouching.  

In the next section, skills like hand embroidery, quilting (kantha) were applied on the products as per the requirement of the buyers.

Extra-thread cutting as well as ironing and folding of the final products were also done on in the same section. There was a separate table for the barcoding and packing of the products. The packed products were placed in the boxes and were ready to dispatch.      

The students also visited the showroom of Rangtantra, where all the finished goods of Rangotri were showcased for the exporters. The variety of block printed products including Dari, Bed sheets, Bedcovers, Cushion covers, Curtains, Table mats, Napkins, Garments, pouches etc. were displayed in a very impressive manner.

It was a beneficial visit for the students as they interacted with the workers and gained practical knowledge about block printing.
