Workshop : Two day workshop on “Pattern Making & Construction”

A resourceful workshop was organized by the Department of Fashion and Textiles on 9th and 10th of August 2018. The resource person for this workshop was Miss Roshni Tarani. She is a well established fashion designer and specialises in pattern making. She is the first Indian to receive master’s degree in transformational construction from TR cutting school, Milan. The main topics discussed in the workshop were:-
On the first day of the workshop i.e. 9th August, students were introduced with different patterns and clothing of trousers, pants, palazzos etc. She made the students understand the concepts behind different types of pattern and their facts and figures. Then all the students were asked to construct the basic pattern and the adaptations in that. At the end of the day groups were formed in which each group included students from various semesters so as to give them the exposure of how work is done in industry. Each group discussed their pattern and then they learned as how to calculate the required fabric needed for the respective construction.

The second day i.e. 10th of august, all the groups selected one pattern for their trousers and every group preceded towards its adaptations and stitching. Each group presented their garment with some elements of Rajasthan culture through gota, mirror work, turbans etc.

At the end of this workshop the garments of each group were represented by the models selected from respective groups. A ramp walk was conducted and designers were asked to represent their respective looks.
The workshop came to an end with a healthy discussion between the resource person and students, in which she explained few things about the fashion shows and appreciated the work of students.
