Department of Fashion & Textiles had celebrated “HANDLOOM DAY” on 7th August, 2021 to keep the textile heritage alive and create awareness of Handloom fabrics. This day is celebrated for the integrity of handloom community and recognize their contribution towards India's Socio-Economic development. India’s love affair with handloom spans the course of centuries, with precious weaves preserved and passed down from mother to daughter as a treasured heirloom. From fabrics and weaving techniques to embellishment styles and aesthetics, they are praised globally for showcasing our country's ingenuity and expertise. As guardians of the rich legacy, it is integral that we understand its origins and evolution over the years.
The few very popular Indian textiles are Phulkari, Gujrati , Rajasthani ,Banarasi, Kanchipuram, Baluchari and Paithani sarees/textiles weaving in many regions . The cultural significance of its kaleidoscopic colour palette and motifs are underscored when factor in the fact that it has been favored by Indian brides for centuries. Students prepared the different charts inspired by the different handlooms.
Outcome of the activity: The students were able to understand the textiles of different states interms of printing, layout, weaving and surface embellishment, So that they can use the traditional textiles into the customize products according the present market demand.
